September weather trend in Kathmandu in recent years


September is the month of transition from the wet monsoon to dry autumn. Kathmandu starts to feel morning and evening chill towards the end of this month, whereas the daytime temperature still hovers around 30°Celsius.

In terms of temperature, this year, the month remained about in average. The average maximum temperature of the month was about a degree higher than past 30 years average, however, it was in par with the average maximum temperature for the month in last 6 years. This month's average maximum temperature stayed at 29.3°C, whereas the 30 years average for the month is 28°C

September 14th was the hottest day this month which recorded 31.5°C. Sept 8th, 2012 was the hottest September day in recent years with the maximum temperature of 32.3°C. Whereas September 16th this year was the coldest day in the month of September in recent years with mercury dipping down to 15.5°. Sept 26, 2011 was coolest September day in recent years, with the mercury staying within 18.3°C.

The average monthly rainfall in Kathmandu in September is 199.8mm. The maximum 24 hours rainfall recorded in the month was 134.7mm in Sept 13, 2012. This month the total rainfall was 218.1mm, that was just about the monthly average. 2012 September was the wettest September in recent year, in which the total precipitation amounted to 476.1mm. As of the end of September, Kathmandu received total of 1,841mm of rain, which is already about 368mm more than the average annual rainfall, with this it is the already the second wettest year after 2002 in Kathmandu in past 35 year.

Earthquake in Nepal! M4.4 at Humla on September 22




Kathmandu, September 22 National Seismological Center (NSC) web portal reported a minor earthquake measuring M4.4 on Richter scale in Western Nepal on Sept 22th at 20:21am local time (14:36 UTC). According to the NSC the quake was epicentered at Humla in Western Region of Nepal.

Earthquake in Nepal! M4.5 at Dhankuta on September 12




Kathmandu, September 13 National Seismological Center (NSC) web portal reported a moderate earthquake measuring M4.5 on Richter scale in Eastern Nepal on Sept 12th at 10:14am local time (04:29 UTC). According to the NSC the quake was epicentered at Dhankuta in Eastern Region of Nepal.
