Rato Matsyendranath Temple (a.k.a. Machhindrabahal, Tabahal)
Place: Ta:bahal, Tangal (Lalitpur)
This is one of the two temples where Rato Matsyendranath resides. The idol of Matsyendranath is brought to this temple, situated about 300m south of Patan Durbar Square, prior to beginning of chariot festival in Patan - one of the longest festival in Nepal, during which 32haat tall chariot is pulled around the various places in the city. During the festival the idol, again, stays in the chariot. Once the chariot festival is over, after the event of bhotojaatra in Jawalakhel, the idol is carried back to the second temple in outskirt of Patan. The god of Matsyendranath is known by various names viz. Karunamaya, Arya Avalokiteshwora, Bungdyo, and variant Machhindranath.
sbn001 says The blue coloured steel railings were installed a couple of years back. Although it provides security to the temple, the original beauty of the temple and the bahal has been disturbed.
